STORY / GAMEPLAY
An evil dragon named Meka sets to conquer a peaceful and prosperous place named "Wonder Land". He and his minions are out to transform it into "Monster Land", a new place lead by evil! Only Tom Tom (our Wonderboy from the first game) can stop Meka's evil plans and bring peace back to Wonder Land. Playing as Tom Tom, your hard quest starts by facing many of Meka's allies (that come in a variety of sizes) plus a big boss at the end of each level (The game has 27 big bosses in total!) By killing the foes, you get either extra (extended) time or some coins that will help you purchase energy drinks, stronger weapons, shields, bombs and more from different stores you find on the way. All you have to do is to gather the coins and knock on the door to enter these stores. Tom Tom must absolutely get stronger as he struggles and fights against the "monsters" 'cause the game's difficulty gradually increases. Wonderboy In Monsterland is one of the best coin-op conversions ever made on a home computer or console and among the most popular through all generations of gaming.
GRAPHICS / SOUND
The ST conversion looks and plays cool. The visuals are almost identical to the coin-op original with an accurate color palette, good sprites animation and some of the most funny-looking villain characters ever seen on a game. The controls seem quite stiff at times but the overall response does not render this game unplayable (or something). The game's sound is also great and offers the original amusing tune plus some nice sound effects! Note that the Amiga version was ported from the ST with some minor differences on the sound sector. In general, both ST and Amiga conversions are equally good and almost identical.
